Alternative Forest Management Plan

Alternative Forest Management Plan

The Board of Forestry is exploring alternative Forest Management Plans for the State Forests in northwest Oregon. Recently a group of stakeholders, featuring representatives from the conservation community, timber companies, county commissions, and the recreation community put forward a number of proposals. The North Coast State Forest Coalition supports more restoration, enhanced recreation, and revenue diversification. Here are all of the proposed plans:

In October of 2015, the Oregon Department of Forestry completed an initial round of modeling based on the 70/30 proposal in which 70% of the landscape is treated like an industrial timber plantation. The results indicate a drastic decrease in conservation and a bad long-term economic outlook.

Now, the Department of Forestry is updating their growth and inventory data to know for certain how much timber is on the landscape and how quickly it is growing so that the Board of Forestry can make informed decisions.
